Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner has stressed the need to reduce the level of offending in the county.

Simon Hayes said after a webchat on portsmouth.co.uk that ensuring a continued reduction in offences would mean there would be fewer victims of crime.

He said: ‘We have a very good police force across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with the right culture of public service but we need to try to change that good police force into a great police force.’

In the webchat, Mr Hayes said he understood concerns over police station closures and stressed the work being done by safer neighbourhood teams across the area.
