Dangerous thug jailed for '˜sustained attack' on woman in her home

Charles Skae left the victim with multiple injuries including bad bruising and a cut to her head.

The 27-year-old, of North Street, Portsea, has been branded a ‘high risk’ to the public and at risk of committing another serious crime.

In the terrifying ordeal Skae even damaged the victim’s phone, cutting off a lifeline to police.

Now he has been jailed for four years and will serve an extra two years on extended licence when released from prison to protect the public.

Addressing Skae at Portsmouth Crown Court, Recorder Anne Arnold said: ‘You carried out a sustained assault upon her, causing her a multitude of injuries, including biting her, causing very serious bruising and a cut to her head which required gluing.’

The judge added Skae used a glass as a weapon in the assault.

She added: ‘You threatened her with a knife and damaged her phone, cutting off the opportunity for some time of assistance.

‘The victim was in her own home at the time and couldn’t escape for a considerable period of time.’

The victim is now terrified of spending time alone at her home, the judge added.

It happened on January 16 in Portsmouth, a previous hearing was told.

The judge said: ‘She suffered, in my view, serious injury both physical and psychological.’

During sentencing Skae interrupted the judge by saying ‘I was attacked first’ and ‘in English?’.

After the judge passed the sentences for the assault and damage, he said: ‘Still not following.’

Howard Barrington-Clark, for Skae, said ‘There’s something in him that can be saved.’

Skae was jailed for four years with a two-year extended term for the threat to kill, and three years to run concurrent for the assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He received no separate penalty for damaging the property.

Skae pleaded guilty to all the charges at a previous hearing.

The court heard he was previously involved in a robbery where the victim was beaten unconscious.

The judge imposed a restraining order banning Skae from contacting the victim.

Skae must pay an £120 victim surcharge.
