TRIBUTES were paid to the Hampshire police’s director of finance who leaves the force today.

Chief Constable Alex Marshall praised Michael Coombes, who despite playing a key role in helping the force save £38m so far towards its £55m target by April 2015, is today leaving due to redundancy.

The force has identified £14.1m of further savings towards its government-set goal.

Mr Marshall said: ‘Michael has been hugely supportive of me throughout my time as Chief Constable.

‘These have been, I suggest, the most difficult times financially that the force has ever faced.’
