POLICE are hoping to identify a man whose body was washed up on Hayling beach through DNA analysis.

Officers have confirmed the man is not believed to be local and it could take several weeks to formally name him while detailed genetic tests are carried out.

As previously reported in The News, the body was found at Eastoke on New Year’s Day. It is believed it may have been in the sea for up to a week.

Officers have widened their inquiries to include the coastline around Sussex, Kent, Devon and Cornwall, Wales and Dorset.

A post-mortem ruled out foul play, and police are not treating the man’s death as suspicious.
