Drama as car crashes into railings near Portsmouth shops

A MOTORIST escaped with minor injuries after a car mounted a pavement before crashing into railings and traffic lights.

Drama unfolded around 2.05pm yesterday after a Volkswagen Touran came off Kingston Road, in Buckland, Portsmouth, shortly before Sultan Road.

None of the shops along the street were damaged.

Part of Kingston Road was temporarily closed while emergency services arrived at the scene.

Firefighters were also sent out to check out damage to the traffic lights.

Hampshire Constabulary says an Audi A6 was also involved in the incident, though a spokesman said it was unclear whether the vehicle was directly involved in a collision with the Volkswagen car or not.
