POLICE stopped a shopper driving off drunk.

Officers were called after staff refused to sell Maxine Withall, 48, at a Tesco Express because they believed she was drunk.

Staff told police they believed Withall, from Bognor, had been drink-driving and officers stopped Withall from starting her car to drive away, on December 17.

Tests later proved she was three times the drink-drive limit.

Withall, of Sloe Gardens, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when she appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 7.

She was banned from driving for 24 months, made the subject of a community order.

She must also pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
