Drugs crackdown in Portsmouth sees 12 arrested

Police have arrested 12 people in a clampdown on drug-dealing

Police, the UK Border Force, Ministry of Defence Police and Portsmouth City Council took part in the raids.

Out of the 12 arrested, four were held on suspicion of drug offences

Chief Inspector Jim Pegler said: ‘We will continue to disrupt drug dealers’ activities and reduce the demand for them in the city. We are determined that people who bring drugs into Portsmouth feel that they are at constant risk of being stopped, arrested and generally disrupted. We will be relentless in tackling people who bring this misery to Portsmouth.’

The arrests on December 1 and 2 were:

n A 17-year-old boy from Portsmouth held on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drug and attempt to conceal criminal property. Bailed to February 2.

n Abdul-Hakim Hubahimfura, 22, from Elphinstone Road, Southsea, charged with having a bladed article. Bailed to court on December 20.

n A boy, 17, on suspicion of burglary dwelling and theft, and theft – other. Bailed until January 5.

n A city man, 31, on suspicion of being in charge of vehicle whilst unfit through drugs. Bailed until January 30.

n A city man, 39, on suspicion of five counts of make off without making payment. Bailed until January 6.

n Bogdan Duda, 35, from Newcome Road, Fratton, was arrested for an out of force failing to appear warrant. He appeared in court in Nottingham on December 3.

n Lee Verinder, 35, arrested for two counts of failing to appear warrants. He appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on December 5.

Three men were arrested in drugs warrants on November 29. They were:

n A 16-year-old city boy on suspicion on acquire / use / possess criminal property and conspiracy to supply a Class A. Bailed until February 21.

n A 47-year-old city man on suspicion of being concerned in an offer to supply cocaine. Bailed until February 21.

n A 50-year-old city man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A. Bailed until February 7.

A fourth man was due to stand trial over assault and criminal damage today.

David Boam, 49, of Quinton Close, Somers Town, was jailed for eight weeks after admitting attempted theft at Marks and Spencer in Havant and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour, causing harassment, alarm or distress.
