MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to stay in at night after a drunken assault on a police officer.

Mark McMillan was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in Eastney Street, Southsea.

The 35-year-old was taken to Portsmouth central police station in Winston Churchill Avenue, where he assaulted PC Marcus Kennedy.

McMillan, of Highland Road, Southsea, admitted assaulting the officer and being drunk and disorderly when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He will have to stay in between 9pm and 7am on Fridays and Saturdays and 7pm and 7am the rest of the week for the next three months.

McMillan was also told to pay £100 in compensation to the officer.
