A PENSIONER is in hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked outside a Portsmouth pub.

The 67-year-old man was set upon in High Street, Cosham, near The First Post, around 4pm this afternoon.

A 25-year-old man from Portsmouth has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

The front of the pub has been sealed off by police tonight and three officers have been standing guard.

Customers have still been allowed in through a back entrance.

Forensic experts have been combing the pavement for evidence.

Detective Sergeant Rob Faricy said: ‘This is an isolated incident which occurred on a busy high street on a Saturday afternoon.

‘We have spoken to a number of people who saw what happened but would appeal to anyone else who has not yet come forward to get in touch.’
