A FORMER general election candidate has been acquitted of assault.

Don Jerrard was accused of assault by beating on a man who was trying to serve him legal papers.

The 65-year-old former candidate for Portsmouth South was acquitted at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on November 25. Mr Jerrard, Petersfield Road, Greatham, Liss, told The News: ‘There was never anything in this whatsoever. It caused my wife huge distress.’

His wife Susan, 64, was present at the incident on August 11.
