DIAMOND rings are among the items stolen from the home of an elderly woman in Fareham.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the burglary which also saw a 9ct yellow gold charm bracelet with about 20 charms attached and a yellow gold brooch with pearls stolen from the property.

The elderly woman had left the property in Wickham Road and her son had turned up and noticed that a wooden side gate was open.

On walking around to the back of the house he saw that the door leading into the kitchen had been forced open and the handle was broken off.

The burglary took place on Friday, August 26 between 12.30pm and 2pm.

Anyone who saw anything or has been offered jewellery for sale should call PC Samantha Gee at the Priority Crime Team at Gosport police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
