PEOPLE are being asked to be on the lookout for expensive jewellery stolen during a burglary

The haul – which included a £9,600 Rolex watch, £6,000 engagement ring and a £2,000 eternity ring – was taken from a property in East Shore Way, Portsmouth.

The victim, a 25-year-old man, disturbed the burglars when he returned home.

He saw the offenders run away, escaping over a fence at the back of the house on March 1.

Despite chasing the pair, the homeowner was unable to catch them when they jumped into a faded red vehicle and drove off.

Police are asking the public to be vigilant if they are offered any of the stolen jewellery, or see similar items for sale.

PC Kate Smithers, of Fratton Priority Crime Team, said: “Did anyone witness anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the burglary?

‘Or are you aware of the location of these stolen items now?

‘If so please contact us as soon as possible.

‘I’d also advise others to be extra vigilant when away from their property, ensuring that windows and doors are closed and secure.’

The first thief was white, of medium-to-large build, between 5ft 1in to 5ft 6in, and wearing dark clothing including a hat.

The second was white, 5ft 8in, of medium build and was wearing a black hat, top and trousers.

Call PC Smithers of Fratton Priority Crime Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
