A 90-YEAR-OLD man has fallen victim to distraction burglars.

A conman claiming to be from Southern Water knocked on the victim’s door in Botley Drive, Leigh Park, on Tuesday.

Claiming he needed to check the water supply, the suspect entered the property while a second man went upstairs and searched the bedrooms.

Nothing was taken but subsequent checks by the victim revealed the man was not from Southern Water. It happened just after midday.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 10in, of slim build, clean shaven, with dark brown short hair in a tidy style.

He was lightly sunburnt in the face. He did not have any jewellery and no marks, scars or tattoos were visible.

He had a local accent and was aged between 35 and 40 years old and wore a black, single breasted suit.

PC Nick Wisdom, from Havant police, said: ‘I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the suspect described to get in touch.

‘I would urge the public not to let anyone into their property unless they are confident about their identity and to refuse entry if they are not completely satisfied that they are genuine.’

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
