Police had been called to near Halfords in Southampton Road, Park Gate, on Sunday at around 10.15pm, Hampshire police previously said.

Flanked by dock officers 32-year-old Luff, of Bedford Drive, Fareham, was told he would appear via videolink at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 24.

No plea was entered and there was no application for bail from Luff's lawyer, Howard Barrington-Clark.

Remanding Luff in custody, district judge Anne Arnold said: 'Mr Luff I'm sending the matter to Portsmouth Crown Court where you'll be required to attend a plea and trial preparation hearing on the morning of September 24.'

She added: 'You'll be dealt with by videolink.

'I'm going to remand you in custody.'

Hampshire police said a 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released from custody without charge, but remains under investigation.
