Fareham police reveal list of roads affected by recent bike theft spree

POLICE in Fareham are investigating a spate of shed and garage break-ins – which they believe is the work of a people trying to steal bikes.

Posting on their Facebook page, the team said that they had seen a ‘small rise’ in the last fortnight across the borough.

The post said: ‘It seems that those responsible are seeking to steal push bikes and not always valuable ones at that. It is reasonable to think however most households have bikes and that they will normally cost several hundreds of pounds.

‘Please always take pictures of your bikes and record serial numbers and noticeable marks, this is helpful if you are unfortunate enough to have to report a crime. Bikes are notoriously difficult to trace as are moved on quite quickly but having pictures allows our teams to keep an eye out and circulate details and hopefully locate them and a bad guy or girl on the end of it.’

The roads affected are Hunts Pond Road, Crofton Lane, The Uplands estate, Gudgeheath Lane, Blackbrook Road, Newtown Road, Baytree House, Castle Street and Catisfield Lane.

Police have also said that it is worth upping shed and garage security, as well as preventative measures for bikes. They have recommended heavy duty chains, securing bikes to permanent fixtures, sensor lights and shed door alarms.
