AN al-Qaeda fighter rumoured to be a former Pompey player has been unmasked.

The man urging people to join jihadists in Syria in a video published two weeks ago was thought to be Lassana Diarra.

That claim prompted a denial from the player’s lawyer.

Now British and foreign security services have discovered the man is probably Portugese, according to The Guardian.

They believe the man is an individual called Celso Rodrigues Da Costa who had been living in Leyton, east London with his two brothers.

Diarra’s lawyer Eric Dupond-Moretti previously said: ‘He is not a jihadist, he is a footballer with Lokomotiv Moscow.’
