A BOMB disposal unit was called out after a flare was discovered by someone on a beach.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at East Wittering Beach, in East Wittering, West Sussex, at 3.40pm today. They checked over the flare before disposing of it as a precaution. The discovery is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: ‘A flare was found on East Wittering Beach by a member of the public.

‘This kind of discovery is fairly routine and was disposed of as a precaution.
