Fly-tippers dump rubbish next to recreation ground in Burridge

Streetscene officers from Fareham Borough Council discovered a collection of cardboard and two black sacks filed with wiring and paper waste dumped in the recreation ground’s car park on Monday, May 11.

Following investigation by the council’s enforcement team, two addresses were sent a fixed penalty notice of £80 each and supporting photographic evidence.

Both people admitted the offence of fly-tipping and one of the fines has since been paid.

The council would continue to have a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to fly tipping, according to Councillor Trevor Cartwright, the executive member for public protection on the council.

He said: ‘Fareham is an attractive place to live and work and we want to keep it that way – that’s why we take a zero-tolerance approach to fly tipping.

‘I’m pleased that our officers were able to identify where this waste came from and this matter was dealt with quickly.

‘If residents see cases of fly tipping in the borough, we ask that they report it to us so that we can take the appropriate action.’

Household waste recycling centres across Hampshire have reopened, with social distancing measures in place.
