FOUR people were arrested after a mechanical digger was stolen in West Sussex.

Crooks raided an outbuilding at the Watergate Estate in West Marden, near Chichester, and took the digger.

A white Transit van and trailer was used to drive it away, together with computer equipment, with a total value of £7,000.

A resident, who spotted the break-in at around 2am last Thursday, followed the vehicle in his car before losing sight of it.

Police were alerted and were able to find the stolen items on land at Brickbatt Farm, Mouthey’s Lane, Funtington, near Chichester, several hours later.

Three men aged 29, 46 and 59, and a woman aged 55 were arrested there on suspicion of dishonest handling and later released on bail until April 17, pending further inquiries. Call police with information on 101.
