FOUR arrests were made by police in connection with Portsmouth FC’s match against Newport County.

Around 1,000 Pompey fans are believed to have attended and were bussed to the stadium while others were escorted on foot by police.

Three of the four who were arrested are in police custody which includes a 19-year-old man from Newport for public order offences, a 28-year-old from Newport for breach of the peace, and a 24-year-old from Hampshire for public order offences.

A 25-year-old, from Pontyclun, was arrested and charged for breaching a dispersal order and was bailed to appear in court next month.

Officers at Gwent police said the match was ‘overall peaceful’.

Superintendent Glyn Fernquest added: ‘The majority of fans were good natured and responsibly behaved.’
