POLICE have arrested a gang of six teenage boys after a 20-year-old man was assaulted on Southsea Common.

The incident took place on Tuesday just before 6pm.

The victim sustained minor injuries in the attack and was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital in Cosham, where he was treated.

A police officer was also assaulted while attempting to assist the victim, but was uninjured.

Police say the boys, aged 15 to 18, are from Havant and Southsea.

A police spokesman said the boys were arrested on suspicion of various offences and are still in police custody.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact the custody investigation team at Portsmouth Central police station on 101.
