Giant gift box to raise awareness about human trafficking

A BOX with a serious message will be placed inside a shopping outlet to attract those passing by.

On the outside, the giant placement near Bar 38, Gunwharf Quays, will look like a gift and will appeal to those walking past.

But on the inside will lie facts about human trafficking, designed to get across the message that what traffickers offer can look like a good deal, but it is not and that many are promised a better life than they receive.

Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others.

Charity Stop The Traffik formed in 2003 with the aim to stop trafficking. Some of its volunteers will be stationed round the box from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19.

They have been trained to raise awareness and help to promote the signs of trafficking.
