A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was attacked in the grounds of a Portsmouth leisure centre.

The girl was playing in the park near the Mountbatten Centre, in Stamshaw, on her pink mountain bike when she was approached by a group of teenagers.

One of them put a stick in the back wheel of her bike as she tried to ride away, which caused her to fall off.

Another then got onto the bike and rode off while the rest began assaulting the girl on the ground.

She suffered cuts and bruises following the incident at about 5.35pm on Tuesday. The bike has since been recovered by police.

Five teenagers were arrested on suspicion of robbery and bailed until March 20 pending further enquiries. The suspects are two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl.

Det Con Pete Bambury said: ‘The robbery took place in a popular area for joggers and dog walkers. It seems the girl was picked on by the group while she was at the playground. Police were in the area at the time, recovered the bike, and made several arrests.’

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
