Gosport baby murder trial: Court told that boyfriend accused infant’s mum of being a murderer

A MUM accused of killing her helpless baby pointed the finger at her boyfriend as the tot was dying, a court.

The final harrowing moments of baby Stanley Davis’ life saw his mum Roxanne Davis, 30, and her partner Samuel Davies, 24, involved in heated exchanges.

Winchester Crown Court heard how Davis lashed out at Davies by shoving him away before accusing him.

‘It could have been you,’ the mum told Davies.

But Davies would later point the finger at the mum to police. ‘There’s your murderer,’ he said.

He also claimed he saw Davis ‘shaking’ Stanley while holding the infant above her head before he went quiet.

Baby Stanley died of a skull fracture and brain haemorrhage aged just 24 days on March 28 last year.

In total he suffered 42 injuries including fractures to his ribs and nine fractures to his arms and legs sustained during three separate occasions.

The court heard how Stanley was Christened before his life support machine was turned off. He was put in the arms of Davis as he died.

Det Con James Richardson’s statement was read out to the court after the policeman was present at hospital during Stanley’s final moments.

He said: ‘I was fairly certain I heard (Davis) whisper “sorry” in Stanley’s ear.’

As Stanley was dying, Det Con Richardson reported Davis saying: ‘Mummy loves you. Please wake up. What’s happened to you? He looks fine.

‘People will think I’m the murderer. I’ve done nothing wrong. This is the worst thing anyone can go through.

‘You were never in pain with me. Who’s done this? I just wish I knew.’

Det Con Richardson described Davies as being on the ‘periphery’ of events as Davis and her family braced themselves for Stanley’s death. ‘Samuel tried to cuddle Stanley at one point and Roxanne snapped and pushed him away,’ he said.

This was followed by a terse exchange of words where Davis said ‘I’m not talking to you’ to Davies.

He responded: ‘Someone has killed him.’

In nurse Carla Hill’s statement she reported hearing Davies whisper something to Davis, who replied ‘shut up’.

The nurse also heard a comment saying ‘this is all our fault’.

Months after Stanley’s death in November when Davies was being taken to an interview room to be further quizzed on the baby’s death, Davis, in a separate room, spotted her former partner before shouting obscenities at him.

Davies responded to police: ‘There’s your murderer.’

Davis, of Lee Road, Gosport, and Davies, of Mayfield Road, Southampton are on trial accused of causing or allowing the death of the infant. They both deny the offence.
