A PAEDOPHILE has finally admitted carrying out a string of offences dating back to the 1970s and 80s.

Stanley Browning was charged with the offences after he handed himself in to police.

The 68-year-old has been warned he faces a lengthy jail term when he is sentenced next month.

Browning, of The Anchorage, Gosport, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday wearing jeans and a grey jacket.

He pleaded guilty to five multiple incident counts of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child.

All the offences involved the same young girl and happened between 1977 and 1984.

Daniel Reilly, defending, said: ‘He understands that the sentence will be one of imprisonment and a lengthy one.’

Browning was remanded in custody while a pre-sentence report is prepared.
