Gosport pensioner avoids jail for indecent images

A PENSIONER has avoided jail after admitting having hundreds of indecent images of children.

Pensioner Nigel Phillimore was caught after police raided his home in Gosport.

Officers snared the 69-year-old after tracking users of file sharing websites. Phillimore, now of Gosport War Memorial Hospital, is at low risk of reoffending, a court heard.

He admitted one count of possession and three of making indecent images.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard he suffered from clinical depression.

Sentencing, Judge Claudia Ackner said: ‘These offences nevertheless play a part in the abuse of young children by providing the market for those who directly exploit their vulnerability.’

The judge handed him a 12-month prison term suspended for 18 months with rehabilitation activities.

James Kellam, prosecuting, said Phillimore had 131 category A images, the worst, and 165 category B, 414 category C plus videos rated B and C.

Phillimore told police he was not looking for the most serious type of images. He must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and he is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
