Gosport police arrest 16-year-old boy over vandalism at Tesco Express and assault on police officers

A TEENAGER has been charged following a vandalism attack on a Tesco Express store in Gosport, with two police officers assaulted after they arrived.

Officers were sent to investigate a public order incident in Marine Parade East, Lee-on-the-Solent, at 5.34pm on Sunday.

It was reported that the window of the Tesco Express store in Pier Street had been smashed.

Two police officers were assaulted responding to the incident, according to a social media message from Gosport police.

A teenage boy has been charged over the attacks, according to a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary.

He said: ‘A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with criminal damage, common assault of an emergency worker, possession of cannabis, and a public order offence (using threatening/abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress).

The teenager has been bailed to appear at Portsmouth Youth Court on August 6.
