Councillor Mark Hook, leader of Gosport Borough Council, said: ‘We’re delighted our colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary will be sharing our building and we welcome this opportunity of reinforcing our partnership with the police.

‘It will give the public confidence that they are staying in Gosport.’

The office will not be open to the public, Hampshire police and crime commissioner’s office Michael Lane said.

He said the move was effective and efficient.

He added: ‘Hampshire Constabulary are successfully working in partnership in many co-locations around the force area.’

The move comes as part of sweeping changes across the county. Southsea and Fareham police stations have also shut.
