A YOUTH tried to mug a teenage girl but fled empty-handed when she resisted.

The 15-year-old girl was walking along Gosport Road in Gosport, near Newgate Lane, when a boy approached her, grabbed her bag and attempted to pull it from her shoulder at about 4.15pm on Monday. They struggled for a moment before the boy let go of the bag and ran off towards Crofton School.

The suspect was white, about 13 or 14, 5ft 2in, and of medium build with short shaved hair. He was wearing a grey hooded top and grey school trousers

PC Hayden Smith said: ‘This incident has left the victim understandably shocked and upset and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information about the person responsible.’
