A CONMAN has been selling fake VIP dining cards for an Indian restaurant.

Police issued a warning after a 64-year-old Hayling woman fell victim to the £25 scam. It only came to light when she tried to use the card in the Gandhi restaurant, in Hollow Lane, Hayling.

PC Vincent Lane said: ‘It is thought that the man had visited a number of houses in the Hayling Island area.

‘He appeared to be genuine as he had Gandhi Restaurant leaflets with him and was selling the cards for £25 which he claimed entitled purchasers to the offer for a year.

‘Gandhi Restaurant is not part of this promotion and I would urge that if anyone approaches you with this offer that you politely refuse and contact us with the description of the person.’

The offender was described as Asian, about 30-years-old and spoke with a Pakistani accent.

Anyone who is concerned about similar incidents should contact police on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
