A FRAUDULENT firm is targeting businesses in this area with a scam.

Hampshire County Council’s Trading Standards department say they have received complaints about a company called Slom Solution Ltd.

The scam involves approaching businesses and seeking a fee to be included in a new business directory.

However once the customer has signed up to the scheme they realise that the directory is a sham.

Businesses are invoiced asking for payment for joining the directory and the scammers get lucky when companies pay these invoices without realising.

Officials say the fraudsters set up a limited company that sounds authentic, although it is common that they actually operate from a ‘virtual’ rented mailbox or office.

Businesses have been targeted across Hampshire, including some in Gosport, Hamble, Petersfield, and Warsash.

Councillor Ken Thornber, Hampshire County Council leader said: ‘It is important that everyone is sceptical about any companies contacting them that they are not familiar with.’
