PLANS for a new police headquarters are supported by Hampshire Police Authority.

But the majority of members – nine to six – voted against it being in the Winchester area, in the centre of the patch.

Members agree that the existing headquarters at West Hill in Winchester are not fit for purpose.

Part of Alpha Park in Eastleigh – bought more than two years ago for about £9m – is set to be turned into a centre for Hampshire Constabulary’s driving school, force enquiry centre, base for scenes of crime, vehicle workshops, uniform stores, a central archive facility and printing.

Hampshire Constabulary will now look at options for a new headquarters.

Senior officers are set to return to the authority to discuss their plans on September 27.
