Hampshire duo hailed heroes by police for saving injured man's life

Chris Arbon and Peter Evans, pictured left, were among those to be praised during the police force’s annual awards.

The pair had been driving on the M3 northbound last November when they spotted an injured man lying at the side of the busy motorway.

The duo braved the rush-hour traffic to drag the man away from live lanes of traffic and on to the grass verge.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: ‘The brave actions of these two men helped to save the life of the injured man.’

The awards were presented by Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney at a special ceremony in Netley. She said: ‘Hearing their inspiring stories of immense bravery, great professionalism and innovative thinking gives me great pride and it is a huge honour to recognise them in this way in front of their loved ones.

‘It is also a wonderful opportunity to thank those members of the public who have gone that extra mile, in sometimes dangerous situations, to help others in need.

‘It is encouraging to know that there are so many people within our force and within our communities who are committed to making Hampshire and the Isle of Wight a better place to live and work.’

Other accolades went to police for taking down a deadly drug gangs and a gunman.
