TWO friends accused of driving a woman to a secluded spot and sexually assaulting her have been cleared of all charges.

Mark Bartlett and Craig Martin were alleged to have offered the 21-year-old a lift home from Portsdown Hill and driven her to Purbrook Heath, in Waterlooville, where she claimed she was subjected to a sustained attack.

The pair admitted kissing and touching the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, but insisted she had consented to what happened in the early hours of March 23, last year.

They denied the woman’s claims that she had begged to be taken home and that she had told them to stop.

Under cross-examination, the woman said she had pretended to enjoy what was happening so that the pair would stop.

After a week-long trial at Portsmouth Crown Court the jury cleared the pair.

Bartlett, 30, of Three Ways Close, Fareham, and Martin, 23, of Totland Road, Wymering, were found not guilty of three charges of sexual assault.
