Hampshire Police attend overnight M27 crash but there’s no sign of driver

Police have confirmed they were called to an overnight car fire on the M27.

Hampshire Constabulary were called to the incident at 3.49am after a Mini had hit the central reservation and blocked the middle lane of the carriageway. However when Officers arrived there was no sign of the driver.

A police spokesman said: ‘The driver decamped following the incident and searches were undertaken by officers, but were unable to locate the suspect.’

The police were unable to confirm whether the incident is being treated as suspicious but have urged anyone with information or dash-cam footage related to the incident to call 101 and quote reference 44200361601.

The incident took place on the westbound carriageway between junction 10 and 11 with the road having to be temporarily close due to the vehicle being on fire. Firefighters from Fareham and Cosham were also at the scene to extinguish the blaze.
