A MURDER investigation has been launched into the death of a pensioner.

The two people who died in Shanklin on Monday (June 20) have been named as Jean Irwin, 83, and John Irwin, 77.

Police cordoned off a home in Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight, after finding two bodies.

A post mortem examination of Mrs Irwin found death was from neck compression, while Mr Irwin died from ligature suspension.

A statement from Hampshire Police said: ‘Jean’s death is being treated as murder and John’s death is being treated as non-suspicious.

‘We’re not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.’
