A CROOK who assaulted a police officer and damaged a patrol car has been jailed for 67 days.

John Biddle used the police car door to hit PC Sarah Newell.

She was injured and Biddle damaged the door in the process.

At the time of his arrest the 27-year-old had a suspended sentence hanging over him.

That sentence was imposed for handling stolen goods and theft.

Biddle, of Lockerley Road, Havant, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.

He admitted failing to attend an earlier court hearing and breaching his suspended sentence.

He was told to pay £100 in compensation to PC Newell and £250 to Hampshire police for the damage to the car.
