A DAD-OF-ONE has been jailed for his part in the torture of a man badly burnt with an iron for his bank pin number.

Graham Foster-Middleton, 47, held Euen Voinea’s arms, punched and possibly kicked him while Darren Harrison tortured him in an horrific attack.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard the men had been drinking and went back to Foster-Middleton’s home where Mr Voinea was staying.

They bought some beer on the way, but on their arrival Foster-Middleton and Harrison started demanding money and Mr Voinea’s pin number.

Romanian Mr Voinea told them the wrong number and they launched an attack.

Richard Martin, defending, said: ‘They both took hold of him, holding his arms.

‘Mr Harrison put the iron on. Mr Foster-Middleton was stood there shouting.

‘Mr Voinea saw the iron and said “don’t do that”.

‘Harrison used the iron on Mr Voinea. At that point Mr Foster-Middleton kept hold of Mr Voinea, punched him a couple of times and also kicked him.

‘The evidence is that Mr Foster-Middleton sat in a chair and took no further part.’

Mr Voinea tried to flee but the door was locked.

When he awoke the next morning he was let out after saying he would go and buy some beer.

Simon Gregory, from Bedhampton Way, Havant, was heading for a family day out in Hayling Island when he found Mr Voinea covered in blood and crying on a green in the same street.

Mr Voinea suffered severe burns to his chest, arms, stomach and legs and a stab wound to his right leg in the attack on at 10.40pm on May 21 last year.

Foster-Middleton, of Chidham Walk, Havant, admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.

His sentence was delayed due to ill health.

He was jailed for three years and four months.

Sentening him, Nicholas Haggan QC said: ‘You were involved in that assault, you held down Mr Voinea whilst Darren Harrison burnt him with the iron. After that initial stage in the incident you stepped back, you stepped away and you stood down.

‘Darren Harrison used the iron again, this time inflicting multiple burns. Burns to the chest of the victim, his leg and injuries also to his face.

‘Darren Harrison also obtained a knife and he used the knife to stab Mr Voinea in the leg.

‘You, at one stage, punched and you may also have kicked the victim, but that was in the early stages before that incident escalated to the extent it did.’

Darren Harrison, 42, of Billy Lawn Avenue, Leigh Park, was jailed for 12 years after a jury found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm and false imprisonment following a trial in January.
