RESIDENTS in Havant are being warned not to give out their bank details over the phone.
Havant Council been targeted by a scam group trying to con homeowners into handing over personal details during fake tax calls.
The council is advising householders to be aware of anyone phoning them, pretending to be from its tax office, claiming they may be due a refund.
The fraudsters claim that if residents are in the wrong tax bracket they will receive a rebate, however, £55 is needed for the work to be carried out.
This is when people living in the Havant area will be asked to hand over their bank details to the scammers.
In the past week four people have been approached by the fake tax group.
The council is encouraging anyone that is approached to contact the police.
