Havant MP backs Tory candidate to secure Hampshire police and crime commissioner role

Mr Lane met Mr Mak and other MPs in parliament this week to launch his campaign, declaring he will stand in the 2016 Hampshire ballot for the Conservatives.

They discussed policing issues affecting Havant, and Mr Mak praised Mr Lane’s ‘commitment to cutting crime and anti-social behaviour’ across the borough.

Mr Mak said: ‘Thankfully crime rates across Havant remain comparatively low, but there are still areas where we can improve. Domestic violence, low-level anti-social behaviour and fighting legal highs are all issues that need tackling.

‘Ex-navy commander Michael Lane would be an excellent Police and Crime Commissioner, and I am backing him all the way.’

Mr Lane, a former navy commodore and council officer, said: ‘Alan Mak is committed to working with the police to ensure that Havant is a safe community for everybody.

‘If elected, I look forward to working with him in order to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.’

Voting for the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner role, a position currently filled by Simon Hayes, will take place on Thursday, May 5.

The elections will determine the next heads of 41 police forces around the country.
