HAVANT is one of the least burgled areas in the country, according to a survey.

There were only 0.9 burglaries per 1,000 households in the town last year.

The PO9 postcode was just behind Chandlers Ford, in Southampton, at number 12 in the top 20 list of the least burgled postcodes.

M21, which is Chorlton-cum-Hardy, in Manchester, was the burglary capital with 45.2 per 1,000. But there were 12 London boroughs in the top 20, with other big cities such as Birmingham and Liverpool, also featuring prominently on the list, which was compiled by moneysupermarket.com.

Havant Councillor David Guest, who has lived in the PO9 postcode all his life, said:’I’m extremely pleased with those statistics and I think it says a lot for people’s vigilance and the care that they take of their properties.

‘And of course the police for the public advice and guidance. It may have a lot to do with the previous crime clear up rates where police have managed to remove those that cause this problem. That’s why we have got that very pleasant position.’
