Seven caravans stormed onto Havant Rugby Club next to Hook’s Lane on Thursday evening, leaving locals fuming after only seeing the last batch moved on a week ago.

In May, the first flock of travellers arrived before being given the boot.

Havant Borough Council has already began preparations to clear the latest set of travellers from the field.

But one resident said they are not doing enough. They said: ‘Why haven’t the council still done anything to prevent this. This is less than a week since the last lot were moved on.

‘Myself and many residents are getting fed up now as these people have a complete disregard for anyone but themselves.

‘They dismantled a gate to gain access to the area. All the council needs to do is get a huge mound of earth put around the field which would seem to be the cheapest option for them.’

Council officers and police have attended the site.

A spokesman for the council said: ‘Police and council officers have attended the site, undertaken the necessary welfare checks and served a formal notice on the occupants to leave the land.

‘Court action could be taken on Monday to repossess the land if necessary.’
