MAGISTRATES have jailed a shoplifter who attacked a security guard.

Tyrone Holdford assaulted Nicholas Leigh as he tried to stop him leaving the Co-op in Hambledon Road, Denmead, with £23 worth of meat.

The 26-year-old, who has previous convictions, was also charged with a string of thefts from shops in Havant and Hayling Island between January and March when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that at the time of the offences Holdford was serving a community order for fraud and a number of theft offences.

Holdford, of Soberton Road, Havant, pleaded guilty to common assault and six charges of theft.

He admitted breaching the previous court order.

He was jailed for three months.
