AN ALCOHOLIC woman tried to attack a taxi driver in a drunken rage.

Unemployed Michelle Astley got the taxi, driven by Cheryl Dempster, to the One Stop shop in Middle Park Way, Havant.

Astley, who was drunk, tried to get out as a car was passing and nearly caused an accident.

The 43-year-old then launched a tirade of abuse at Ms Dempster and swung at her with her bag and fists.

Astley, of Middle Park Way, Havant, pleaded guilty to a public order offence when she appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court. Bridget O’Hagan, defending, said: ‘This is an unpleasant incident.

‘Mrs Astley has obviously taken steps to try and address the issues that are present in her life.’

Astley told the court: ‘I understand I do have a drink problem.’

The magistrates gave her an 18-month conditional discharge and told her to pay £85 in court costs.
