Helping offenders to make positive changes

The police are working with partners on a project to help former offenders turn their lives around.

Hampshire Constabulary and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Rehabilitation Company run the About Turn Project across the county.

The successful project has engaged with over 300 service users in the past four years.

The ATP holds weekly events, including in Gosport, Havant and Waterlooville.

Users are referred by partner agencies as they may have been involved in low-level crime or drug and alcohol abuse and are given support to help make positive changes to their lifestyle.

It can provide services such as regular drug testing, academic support, finding employment and anger management sessions.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight CRC’s About Turn project co-ordinator Roy Phillips, said: ‘These projects are well-attended and supported by the police and local organisations alike who refer vulnerable and challenged individuals to us.

‘I regularly speak to service users for whom the About Turn project has provided the help, stimulus and ongoing positive reinforcement 
to make changes in their lives.’
