Historic abuse investigation to last five years

A HISTORIC review of child sex cases is expected to take five years to complete.

Operation Marmion was launched in January last year to review sex abuse investigations between 1997 and 2013.

Simon Hayes, police and crime commissioner for Hampshire, asked the county’s police force to launch the review. Investigators have identified 351 potential victims and visited 165 with 38 disclosures of offences.

Mr Hayes said: ‘Operation Marmion has been making quick progress, but historic cases by their nature take a long time to investigate. I would expect the operation to be continued for four or five years.’
