ARMED response units were called after police received a hoax call saying a bus had been stolen at gunpoint in Gosport.

The call was made by a man at 9.30am yesterday morning claiming the incident had occurred at the junction of The Crossways and Duke Road.

Three armed response units, five traffic and two dog teams attended from Hampshire, along with three Gosport police units.

Police rang local bus companies and were told that all buses and drivers had been accounted for.

Officers discovered it was a hoax within 15 minutes and now want to trace the caller.

Hazel Wills, a spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary, said: ‘Enquiries are being made to try and identify the person responsible for the call.’

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police by phoning 101.
