A HOMELESS man appeared before Portsmouth magistrates charged with a string of burglaries.

Michael Hayes is alleged to have broken into houses in Coach Hill, Fareham, and Common Lane, Titchfield, on March 1. He is also accused of stealing a sat nav, damaging a window in Warsash, and taking an air rifle from a shed in Common Lane, Titchfield, and a jacket and helmet from Portsmouth’s Kingston prison in January.

Hayes, 57, did not enter a pleas to the four charges of burglary, one of theft and one criminal damage. He was remanded in custody to appear at crown court in June.
