Hampshire Constabulary said it was called at 9.28am to a collision on the eastbound road.

They confirmed there had been a collision between a car and a horse, and that the horse had later died of its injuries.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said an ambulance crew had been sent to the scene but had not taken anyone to hospital.

The road has now reopened, but drivers have been warned of delays until traffic clears.
