DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after an alleged rape on a 15-year-old girl during the Bestival music festival on the Isle of Wight.
The victim told officers she was in the festival’s main arena in Robin Hill Country Park on Sunday when she was approached by a man she did not know.
The man is then thought to have raped her sometime between 7.30pm and 8.30pm the same day, near the main stage.
He was black, in his 20s, approximately 6ft tall, of large muscular build with braided hair. He was wearing a white top with a navy blue collar and navy blue short sleeves, and wellington boots.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and to the accused to make contact so the full circumstances can be established as soon as possible.
The girl, who is from the island, is being looked after by police officers and staff with expertise in dealing with sexual offences. Her family are being kept informed about the investigation.
Bestival promoters are assisting police with enquiries.
